Reconsider Sending an SEO RFP

A few days ago Brick Marketing received an SEO RFP from a big public company and I have to admit I was a little proud! The fact that we even made it on this company's radar is a sign that we're going about things the right way with regards to our own marketing efforts. However, sometimes I wonder if our efforts are leading prospects to think we're a bigger SEO company than we actually are. As a ten person SEO company we certainly have more in-house capabilities and bandwidth than a solitary SEO consultant, but Brick Marketing isn't a massive SEO firm with dozens of SEO specialists and a whole sales team that spend their days responding to SEO RFPs. And, quite frankly, getting this SEO RFP done right before the holidays, when everyone is working on a tight schedule to get projects done before taking vacation time, is pretty much impossible. We just don't have the time to drop everything and answer this SEO RFP!

Things to Consider When Your Website Traffic Dips

If your traffic dips down this month, don't assume the world is crashing in around you. Unless your traffic vanished overnight and happened to coincide with a Google update like Penguin or Panda it doesn't mean all hope is loss. I'm constantly reminding my SEO clients that you can't make SEO decisions based on one month of data-you have to look for a trend. However, if you notice a dip in traffic from one month to the next and want to uncover why (even if it's just to appease management and keep them from panicking).  I once had a website owner call me in a panic because their traffic vanished overnight. I spent most of my day trying to figure out what had happened and for the life of me couldn't understand it. The traffic loss didn't come in tandem with an algorithm update, so I knew it wasn't a penalty. There was online and functioning perfectly, every page was indexed and they were still ranking incredibly well for their top keywords. What had happened? What happened was that their developer accidentally removed the Google Analytics code from their website and it took us three days to realize that was the issue. Once it was back in their visitors bounced right back, but needless to say that month's data wasn't 100% accurate.

A positive online brand reputation can take years to build. It's important to do all that you can to preserve that positive reputation once it has been earned. When consumers are looking for a product or service or for information about a business, they turn to the Internet. Anybody with an Internet connection can find an outlet online today to post whatever they'd like about your business that can be found just as easily as the content that you are sharing. Mistakes happen and it's best to nip any potential online reputation issues in the bud before they escalate into something bigger.
