 B2B Content Marketing Is Only As Boring As You Make It

The number one complaint I hear from many of my full service B2B SEO clients is that they don't know what to write about. They feel like they don't have anything new to say; that their industry isn't exciting enough; that no one actually cares anyway-so their content marketing strategy gets pushed to the back burner and it's like pulling teeth to get them to come up with even a short list of blog topics (even when my team is handling the writing!). Coming up with engaging and interesting topics when you sell software can be a little more difficult than if you sell clothing, home décor, or other "fun" B2C products, but just because your products aren't nearly as flashy as our B2C counterparts that doesn't mean that your B2B content marketing has to be boring!

404s Aren't Errors, They're Link Building Opportunities!

Next time you are poking around your Google Webmaster Tools account take a look under HEALTH -> CRAWL ERRORS -> NOT FOUND. I bet your site has at least a few 404 errors in there. If you recently redesigned your website or reorganized a lot of content there's probably a few more. A 404 error means that the Google bot was trying to access that certain URL and was unable to do so, usually because that page no longer exists. When one of my B2B SEO clients was redesigning their site (which means new URLs) I started digging through their 404 error reports and found messages from two website redesigns ago! But what do 404 errors have to do with your SEO program?

Until recently one of the easiest ways to build a lot of links very quickly was to buy a directory package where for a set price your site would be submitted to a set amount of directories. I was recently combing through a new clients link profile and of the 1000+ links listed I'd say that 98% of them were directories.
