The Best SEO Firms Practice What They Preach

One of our employees was at a recent SEO roundtable discussion where an inquiring mind asked "how do you find the best SEO company?" Another member of the discussion replied by saying "look at the company's SEO. It's like hiring a personal trainer; you would want to look for someone who was in good shape."  The truth is the best SEO firms are ones that take the same advice they give to their clients and apply them to their own business.

Are You Choosing Facebook Over Your Website?

A few weeks ago I came across this interesting post on MarketingProfs by Christian Briggs entitled "Four Reasons to Jettison the Traditional Website and Go Social." In it, Briggs remarks, "I see companies dispensing with the traditional website in favor of integrating the most popular social networks right into the website and communicating with customers in real time via tweets and Facebook posts."

How to Keep Your Anchor Text Linking Natural

The Google Penguin update has been around for a little while now. We've all come to terms with what has changed and understand that certain link building practices simply are no longer acceptable. Using keywords in anchor text throughout published content has always been recommended SEO practice. Instead of linking to meaningless words like "click here", it actually told the search engine spider what that page was about. However, as time went on Google found that this practice was being abused and over-used, which is why Penguin is also considered to be a penalty for "over optimization". What's important to understand is that anchor text linking shouldn't be eliminated from your SEO strategy entirely. Anchor text links are still OK as long as they are "natural". Of course the absolute most natural way to do things would be to not have a plan at all. But as SEOs, we're planners right?

Ways to Claim More SERP Real Estate

When people are looking for information today they typically turn to their favorite search engine, which is most likely Google. Not only do you want your business to appear within search results, but ideally you want your business to appear multiple times on a SERP (search engine results page). This is especially true for branded search.

Google Penguin 2.0 Update is Live

In case you haven't already heard, the Google Penguin 2.0 update went live on May 22nd, 2013. Also keep in mind that your site could not be directly hit by the Google Penguin 2.0 update and still feel negative effects. For instance, if a good portion of the inbound links sources in your link profile were whacked those links are going to lose some of their SEO value, which means your link profile will lose value as well. Your site might be perfectly fine but if your link profile loses some value your organic presence might take a slight hit.

Why Negative SEO Isn't Worth Your Time

Link building has always been an important part of SEO, but the quality of those links came into focus with the Google Penguin update. Penguin set out to target sites that had "unnatural links" pointing to it and these sites were then penalized. Link building is a time consuming process, but really anyone can do it and anyone can build links to any site that they please. Knowing this, some website owners have thought, "OK, well why don't I create lots of bad links to my competitors to get them penalized?" This practice has become known as negative SEO. Is it worth looking into? Not in our opinion.

Make Sure B2B Content is Information Based

Perhaps the most important component of a B2B online marketing campaign is content. The content that is created on behalf of a business allows that business to be presented in a positive light as an industry insider and source of knowledge. Unlike traditional advertising, marketing content is created with the purpose of being found when someone is looking for what you have to offer. B2B decision makers spend time conducting research to find the best company that fits their needs.

3 Overlooked Link Building Opportunities

If you want to stick to a white hat link building strategy it's important that you diversify your link sources as much as possible. Relying too heavily on one form of link building leaves your website in a vulnerable position-what if that link building tactic becomes classified as web spam and 65% of your links are now junk?

Consider SEO Training IF...

If you are looking to improve the visibility of your website in the search engines and online overall in order to generate more traffic, SEO is definitely the way to go. SEO is an industry that's always evolving and there are so many ways to go about getting SEO work done. There are plenty of SEO professionals out there that work in house, for agencies, or work independently as a consultant that you can hire. However, sometimes the best solution for your business is simply to gain some knowledge through SEO training and work at it on your own. SEO training is the best solution when you can't hire an in house SEO professional. Good SEO professionals certainly don't come cheap.
