Interview with Link Building Expert Eric Ward

Recently I caught up with one of the true white hat natural link building visionaries Eric Ward. Eric Ward has been one of the best white hat link building practitioners since before the SEO industry existed. Some of the best link building advice and strategies I've learned have been from the articles and case studies written by Eric Ward.  Eric Ward also now publishes a private newsletter called LinkMoses Private, which is by far one of the BEST linking strategy newsletters I have ever seen. Every issue contains tons of white hat link building resources, articles and actionable strategies.

Don't Judge Your SEO in a Silo

An SEO client of mine came to me one day and wanted to know why their traffic was down. When I looked at their analytics I saw that they had lost a small percentage of visitors from one month to the next, but nothing to signify that their website had taken a hit from any of the recent Google Panda or Penguin updates or had been penalized or anything negative like that. To me, it looked like a normal fluctuation in traffic; there are a variety of factors that could contribute to the loss of traffic. But my client was adamant that something was amiss, so I dug a little deeper into their analytics and looked at their top performing keywords. If one of those keywords had slipped it's possible that would account for the lost traffic. It turned out, most of their non-branded keywords were on par with the past few months but their branded keywords (specifically the company name) were sending a lot fewer visitors than normal.

Repurpose B2B Content with a Content Recycling Campaign

The whole point of a B2B content recycling campaign is to make sure that your content is being seen by the largest audience possible. The more touch points you can create online, the greater chance you have of making a real connection with your target audience. Someone might see one of those industry blog reviews, but not bother to read it. However, if they later come across your video that you posted to Facebook, your brand name might ring a bell and they'll take a few minutes to check it out. They might decide to head over to that new product page (since the link is in the description of the video!) and learn more about you company and products. Maybe they check out some blog posts or download white paper once they are on your site. Each piece of content drives them one step closer to conversion and gives them a reason to stay engage with your company.
