Why Are My Top Keywords All Branded?

One of the performance metrics that we look at for each of our clients on a monthly basis are the entrance keywords that are delivering traffic to the site. It's important to look at these keywords to compare them to the keywords that are being targeted to ensure that the campaign is on track. If entrance keywords don't make much sense it requires some investigative work to figure out why they are delivering visitors.

Look at Entrance Keywords for B2B Content Topic Ideas

In order to be successful with B2B SEO today it's necessary to create quality content on a regular basis that extends beyond the product/service pages on your website. It's necessary to have an active blog on your own site and contribute content to other industry websites.  The SEO Firm and Web Developer Need to Be on the Same Page

First things first. SEO and web development are two separate things. To some that may seem obvious but if you are relatively new to online marketing it may be a bit confusing. Web development is more about the usability, look, and feel of the site whereas SEO is more about the content and making sure that the search engine spiders are able to properly crawl and index the site.

3 Signs That It's A Bad Link Building Opportunity

Link building is a time consuming and mostly manual process, so it's easy to understand why a site owner might jump at every link building opportunity they come across. After all, there is no guarantee they'll find another one any time soon and more links is always better, right? Wrong! Not all links were created equal and for every great link to be had there are probably a dozen bad link building opportunities in the way.

What Does B2B SEO Success Look Like?

What frustrates many clients about B2B SEO is the long term nature of the strategy. It's just not realistic to think that a brand new SEO campaign is going to yield quick results, even though that's what clients obviously want. There are many outside factors that control SEO success, which is why it's not instantaneous. It takes time for the search spiders to find and index content, the search algorithms are continually changing, trust needs to be achieved, and there is no way to control what the competition is doing or has already done to get ahead of you.

Making the Case for Unlocking Gated Content

Content creation is an essential component of a B2B online marketing strategy today. B2B decision makers turn to the web to find information on the products or services that you provide. Before making a decision that will impact their entire company, and likely take a significant amount from their budget, they want to take the time to ensure that what you offer is the best match for what they need and in line with their business practices. The process typically involves doing some research and reading up on any and all materials that you have published. The smart B2Bs understand this and have dedicated ample resources to content marketing. However, some B2Bs are missing out on opportunities with their content by gating it, or hiding it behind a log-in or a lead form.

Choosing a Preferred Domain in Google Webmaster Tools

The other day I noticed that one of our client's sites had both the www version and non-www version of their domain working. This meant that when I typed in clientsite.com into the address bar the site did not automatically redirect to www.clientsite.com. I was worried that this might be impacting their SEO in some way, so I threw both domains into SEOMoz's OpenSite Explorer tool and found that the two URLs actually had slightly different back link profiles. The non-www domain had 1,107 links and the www domain had 2,459. That's a pretty sizable difference!
