Back to SEO Link Building Basics

The second phase of an SEO campaign, after on-site optimization, is ongoing link building. Links from quality websites establish trust with the search engines. What's important to recognize is that there is a right way to build links, and a wrong way to build links. Sometimes a website owner can get so wrapped up in it, that they can take a link building strategy to the extreme and enter a gray or black hat area. Because it's good to get a refresher every once in awhile, let's take a look at some of the most popular link building strategies and outline what should and shouldn't be done.

A Link Portfolio Needs to be Diverse

There are plenty of ways to build inbound links for SEO purposes. A white hat link building campaign should include tactics, such as article marketing and document sharing, press release distribution, social networking, directory submission, blogging and guest blogging, blog commenting, video marketing, industry specific links, industry association and local profile creation. Some links certainly carry more weight than others. So, that must mean that some links are more important than others and you can pick and choose what you should be doing, right? Not quite. How to Keep Tabs on Your SEO Competition

SEO is a three step program that involves research, on-site optimization, and link building. An important part of the research phase is checking out the market and seeing what your competitors are up to. Their strategies should never be copied; instead the information that you find can be used to ensure that you do things that much better than them! The first step is to understand who your competitors are in the online space, which is based on geographic and business size factors. For example, a local bakery is not competing with large chain grocery stores. It is competing with other local bakeries in the area. Once you know who your competitors are, it's time to check in on them.  The main reason for checking in on competitors is to find a few weaknesses in their strategy and capitalize on them. If they don't have a blog, get started on one! If they are targeting all broad keywords, target some longtails that have search volume! If they aren't using social media properly, become a social media marketing wiz! No matter what industry you are in, there are plenty of competitors online so it's important to find every advantage that you can in order to succeed.

5 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Blog

There are many reasons to blog. A business blog can help build a brand, provides an outlet to communicate with target audience members, establishes a company as a thought leader and expert in a given industry, and improves SEO efforts. Seems great, right? As we know, nothing great ever comes easily and for that reason not every business is ready to start a blog.

Much has been said about making your website or blog search engine

of course good original content.

And hopefully your website will get top rankings. Of course this is
what we all want.

Search optimization works very well but until recently I've been
reading about something that will totally blow away SEO.
